Why pumpkin seeds?

Pumpkin Seeds Are One of The World’s Oldest & Most Recognized Superfoods!

After 40+ years of continuous clinical practice and research in the fields of Nutrition, Integrative Medicine, Anti-Aging, Fitness & Performance Enhancement I determined that pumpkin seeds, and the protein concentrated from them, are one of the most nutrition & health-supporting substances on the planet. We believe in them so much that we’ve built an entire company around them and the products we make from them (and we control the entire process in-house).

We cold-press Organic Pumpkin Seeds using a special process designed to preserve the full nutritional value of the pumpkin seeds. This can only be done via a cold-press process and we’re the only one we know of that does this. Virtually everyone else uses a screw or expeller press which adds a significant amount of heat indirectly as a result of friction. Interestingly, they can call it “cold-pressed” since they aren’t intentionally adding heat.

We keep our seeds below 90 degrees throughout the entire pressing and grinding operations to insure maximum quality of the proteins and fats. This is a long, arduous process that takes approximately an hour per batch!

Here's Why We Believe That Pumpkin Seed Protein Is THE BEST Protein Available:

  1. 100% Organic & Kosher

  9. A Recognized Superfood by Ancient Aztecs, Greeks, & Native American Indians.
  10. Best Tasting of All Protein Powders (Plant or Animal)
  11. Environmentally Sustainable! Unlike All Animal-Based Proteins.

Beneficial Nutrients in Pumpkin Seeds that carry over to Pumpkin Seed Protein:

  • High in Complete, Quality Protein: Concentrated from approx. 20% in seeds to 63% protein.
  • High in Fiber: Vital for enhanced digestive, gut, & eliminative health.
  • High in Healthy Fats: Mono & polyunsaturated fats including EFAs. High in omega 6s & 9s including Linoleic, Oleic fatty acids. Also contains Omega 3s, Alpha Linolenic Acid (that the body converts into EPA & DHA), Palmitic & Stearic fatty acids in smaller amounts.
  • High in Key Minerals: ΒΌ cup contains the following % of the DRI/DV:
    • Manganese 74% (vital for the production of superoxide dismutase);
    • Phosphorus 57% (second most prolific mineral in the body);
    • Magnesium 48% (crucial in over 500 different enzymatic processes, more than any other nutrient, including the production of ATP, RNA & DNA, muscle contraction & relaxation, bone health & proper bowel function);
    • Copper 48% (important in regulating inflammation, normal growth & health);
    • Zinc 23% (involved in approx 300 different enzymatic reactions, second only to magnesium, including: immune function, cell growth and division, sleep, mood, the sense of taste & smell, eye & skin health, insulin regulation and male sexual function);
    • Iron 16% (vital for oxygen transport).
    • It is also a good source of potassium & selenium .
  • High in Key Vitamins: pumpkin seeds are an excellent source of:
    • Carotenoids (vit A precursors);
    • B vitamins (B1-thiamin, B2 – riboflavin, B3 – niacin, B5 – pantothenic acid, B6 – pyridoxine, B9 – folates;
    • Vitamin E in multiple forms including: alpha-tocopherol, gamma-tocopherol, delta-tocopherol, alpha-tocomonoenol, and gamma-tocomonoenol (the last two have only been discovered recently). All have significant antioxidant benefits and the last two appear to be particularly bio-available;
    • Vitamin K – vital for healthy blood clotting.
  • Of course all of these nutrients are Organic and Fully-complexed, i.e., in Food-form for maximum digestibility and bioavailability .
  • L-Tryptophan: Converted into:
    • Serotonin (the happy neurotransmitter),
    • Melatonin (the sleep hormone) &
    • Niacin (vitamin B3).
  • Glutamate: a neurotransmitter that occurs in higher concentrations in the brain than any other amino acid. It's both the primary excitatory neurotransmitter, and is converted into GABA , which is the primary inhibitory or anti-stress neurotransmitter. Contrary to what some espouse, glutamate is vital to proper brain function; too little or too much can be harmful. You can't get too much from pumpkin seeds.
  • Phytonutrients: phytosterols, lignans & polyphenols. All three are believed to have multiple beneficial properties including: reducing absorption of cholesterol, reducing LDL, increasing HDL, helping to reduce the conversion of testosterone into DHT, reducing the conversion of testosterone into estrogens, helping to modulate estrogen activity in both men and women (reducing the impact of too-high levels while enhancing the function of subpar levels), induction of apoptosis (programmed cell death) in cancer cells, anti-inflammatory effects, antioxidants, and they also play a significant role in the beneficial health effects listed below. Pumpkin seeds have one of the highest levels of phytosterols of any commonly consumed seed or nut.

Documented Beneficial Health Effects &/or Benefits of Consuming Pumpkin Seeds:

  1. Antioxidant support - with antioxidants, much of the benefits have to do with the their diversity as they work as a team in the body. Pumpkin seeds contain widely diverse forms of vitamin E , one of the top dietary antioxidants, making it particularly valuable. In addition, manganese, zinc and selenium are mineral antioxidants that occur in significant amounts in pumpkin seeds. Next, there are various phytonutrient antioxidants that occur in pumpkin seeds: polyphenols (such as the following acids: hydroxybenzoic, caffeic, coumaric, ferulic, sinapic, protocatechulic, vanillic, and syringic), as well as lignans (such as: pinoresinol, medioresinol, and lariciresinol). All together, the wide array of diverse antioxidants present in pumpkin seeds provide significant beneficial effects that few, if any other foods, or individual antioxidants can provide.
  2. Diabetes: improves insulin regulation & prevents diabetes-related kidney damage.
  3. Antimicrobial: + anti-fungal, anti-viral, and anti-helminth (anti-worm / parasite) properties.
  4. Potential Cancer-Related Benefits: associated with a decreased cancer risk.
  5. BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia) - associated with the following substances: 1. The phytosterols; 2. The lignans; 3. The Polyphenols & other antioxidants, and 4. Zinc.
  6. Improving Bladder Function including: Overactive Bladder, Urinary incontinence, Urinary urgency, and Night time urinary frequency.
  7. Assists Kidneys: Helps with kidney infections, helps prevent kidney stones.
  8. Helps prevent &/or kill intestinal worms & parasites
  9. Heart Disease Benefits – Shown to: Boost HDL; Reduce total cholesterol; Reduce LDL; Reduce diastolic blood pressure; Restore normal nitric oxide levels (vital for blood cell dilation)
  10. Bone Health -The combination of high quality protein plus strong levels of the minerals Magnesium, Zinc & Phosphorus, plus trace minerals, and phyto-nutrients supports bone-building health.
  11. Arthritis & other inflammation-based chronic conditions are helped by the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of pumpkin seeds.
  12. Anxiety Relief: Contains significant amounts of Tryptophan that's converted Serotonin (the anti-anxiety, feel-good, happiness neurotransmitter).
  13. Immune Enhancement .
  14. Mood Enhancer: Due to L-tryptophan content (the precursor to serotonin).
